RATIONALE FOR EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Many leadership experts consider an executive’s performance in Interpersonal Relations to be a critical determinant of the individual’s continued long term success. All too often, many successful executives are so busy “charging ahead” that they fail to recognize the significance of their behavior pattern on others, particularly subordinates and peers. As such, it is highly beneficial for executives, on occasion, to “step back” and take stock of how they are functioning--in an interpersonal sense--as leaders and as teammates in their respective organizations. After 1) gaining valuable feedback on how they are perceived by others, and 2) engaging in related skill building processes, executives are then prepared to pursue important personal development activities.
IMPROVING EXECUTIVE PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
Executive Leadership Coach (Consultant), Michael Murray, provides executives and their organizations with an effective and affordable three-part program for Improving Executive Performance:
- Creating Collaboration Workshop
- 360 Degree Feedback Process
- Executive Coaching
A broad summary of the program Improving Executive Performance is presented below.
CREATING COLLABORATION WORKSHOP
In this fast-paced participative program, executives learn techniques to increase collaboration with others (subordinates, peers, bosses, and clients). In the process, they also learn to frame conflict as a potentially productive tool. In the workshop, executives:
- Are introduced to five basic conflict-handling styles.
- Discover how the ways they instinctively handle conflict—their conflict styles—affect performance.
- Learn to match the appropriate style to the situation.
- Learn helpful steps and techniques to increase collaboration.
- Apply workshop learning’s to their private conflict situations.
- Develop a Personal Action Plan to leverage learning’s.
This session includes a diagnostic instrument, a high quality reference workbook, video segments, and role playing. The instructor (Michael) augments the state-of-the-art styles material with learning exercises gleaned from his broad experience base in leadership training, executive coaching, and mediation. PowerPoint slides (~20) complement the content and pacing.
Standard Group Session (4 hours). Option: 1 to 1 session with Consultant
360 DEGREE FEEDBACK PROCESS
The Consultant provides the executive(s) with feedback from a series of structured interviews (~5), enabling the executive to gain valuable insight into how he/she is perceived by others, particularly related to interpersonal relations, leadership patterns, and conflict management skills. Such realizations better enable executives to pinpoint beneficial personal development opportunities/needs.
With assistance from the Consultant, executives establish self-improvement Personal Action Plans following the 360 Feedback process and the Creating Collaboration workshop. These action plans generally focus on executives developing more effective leadership patterns, improving communication, and enhancing teamwork and collaborative problem solving. Follow-up telephone discussions with the Consultant serve to monitor and reinforce the executives’ progress in implementing Action Plans.
